The Bobbie Chettleburgh Grant

Bobbie ChettleburghIn recognition of Cllr Bobbie Chettleburgh’s service to the City of Salisbury and her Mayoral Appeal 2009/10 for Childrens Chance the Trustees are delighted to announce a grant in her name for £1000 annually.

The grant will be available to young people of 16-18 years of age who either attend school in Salisbury or live in Salisbury. During the year of her Mayoral Appeal Cllr Chettleburgh was particularly keen to support children and young people in the city itself and this grant reflects that wish. (For the purpose of the grant Salisbury is defined as SP1 or SP2 only).

The grant was announced on 7th May 2010 at the Mayor’s Farewell Concert at St Thomas’s Church, and to celebrate this anniversary the grant will be awarded on the 7th May each year starting in 2011.

To apply, young people will need to complete the standard application form, and in addition write a letter of application addressed to Cllr Chettleburgh. The letter should be handwritten and cover no more than one side of A4. The usual rules will apply; the activity should be education, recreational or cultural.

Examples of activities that would be welcomed by the Trustees would be those helping ‘good causes’ such as travelling to Africa, India or Eastern Europe to help in orphanages or schools. Applications for development overseas would also be welcomed, such as attending a tennis academy in the United States, or studying music in Russia. These are just examples, all applications will be considered on their individual merit. (Applicants should note the standard rules - see here -, and particularly that the Trustees cannot be liable for any personal injury or failure of service provision, and any activity is undertaken at the beneficiary’s own risk).

It is a great pleasure for the Trustees to be able to announce this grant, both Bobbie and Malcolm Chettleburgh have worked tirelessly for the City and the Mayoral Appeal, and this grant in the Chettleburgh name is a mark of the affection, respect and gratitude for all that they have done.

Applications for the first award of the Bobbie Chettleburgh Grant should be sent to 4 Victoria Road, Salisbury, SP1 3NG no later than 7th April 2011. The winner will be informed on 7th May 2011.
